A Saturday Afternoon with Elwood!

January 12, Jerren, Pat, Joe and myself loaded up our bikes and headed to Melbourne Beach. It was a beautiful sunny day and we had made plans to spend the afternoon with Conor and Elwood (Meghan was in an all day Yoga clinic). I have always driven through the west part of Melbourne via I-95 so I had no idea this beautiful, quaint beach side community existed on A-1-A. I loved it! What a perfect spot they live in- a short walk across the street from the beach in a quiet neighborhood with sidewalks for bike riding. Elwood is quite the charmer. We pulled in their driveway and we were greeted by Elwood with his big grin and his shy way of snuggling in to his Daddy's shoulder. I was delighted that he let me hold him as we had not seen them since Christmas, and I got the best ever Elwood hug! We all went inside to visit and we loved the layout and spaciousness of their house and the tropical backyard. After doing some catching up, we walked across the street to a quiet beach somewhat like our favorite in Fort Pierce and took turns letting Elwood lead us into the waves--No Fear! He loved the surf and loved showing us he only needed one hand held even when a foamy wave snuck up on him. Nothing but sheer delight as the cold water sucked at his drooping diaper. Off with the diaper and we just loved watching him and his naked bum circling our legs in the surf. We headed back home for a change of clothes and to watch Elwood practice more walking skills in the living room. He walked more and more solo steps as we took pictures and held out hands to help steady him. What a smile!!!! Then a bike ride for burritos-and they were really good!
